Batsauce - Dispatches From Da Nang

A Dispatch from Batsauce:

“I always travelled with my beat machine. Usually had a portable turntable with a little stash of records I’d pick up along the way. While living off & on in Da Nang for years, I would invariably run out of albums to sample. Rather than stop making beats, I took up the challenge to make ‘sample-free’ music. Really, I was just circling back to my roots of making music on instruments, routed through my sampler.

It was a challenge I enjoyed. Trying to channel the sights & sounds, the smells, food & people of Vietnam into the music. Eventually, I had a folder full of instrumentals to choose from. A travelogue of sounds I call Dispatches From Danang.

We’re releasing this project on Tết – the Vietnamese New Year. Really it’s a lunar holiday representing the first day of spring. Considered the most important holiday of the year, Tết is a week long celebration filled with food, drink, and family. To help you celebrate, every cassette includes a red paper lantern stuffed inside a hand stamped envelope.

Wishing all of you a Happy New Year. Chúc mừng năm mới!”
